All my life I have had the desire to have a big adventure like the Dakar rally.  It was one of those things that I would say I was going to do "someday".  When I turned 39 I realized that "someday" needs to be "someday soon" or it was never going to happen.

So, I am 39 years old, out of shape, and honestly do not currently have the motorcycle riding skills needed for such an event.  I have given myself 5 years to fix all of that and this blog is a way for me to share my progress toward that goal with everyone.

I am starting with getting in shape which means loosing 30 (ok, really 40) pounds, increasing my strength and endurance, and oh yeah, get my recurring knee injury in shape.  Then I plan on doing a lot of trail riding and enduro races to improve the riding skills.  In the next couple of years I want to get more serious about racing and try to get out to the southwestern US for some desert racing.

Even if I never make my goal just getting into shape will make it all worthwhile.  I have tried getting in shape many times in my life but never had the big motivator to make it happen before this.  By having this as a goal and sharing it with everyone I hope to keep my motivation and turn this dream into a reality.
